In spite of the obvious and great successes achieved by the Green Revolution, society is demanding important changes in environmental agricultural policy. This is intended to create locally-feasible rural development and agriculture where economic, ecological and socio-cultural systems are balanced.

There is an obvious need to link the future of agriculture to new goals in food production; these goals should expand today's vision and consider issues related to social equity, economic viability, political stability and environmental preservation.
